CAMPUS HEATMAP — Interactive Urban Planning Tool
The project CAMPUS HEATMAP was initiated with the ambition to actively contribute to local urban development. At the prototypical example of the HAWK Design Campus in Hildesheim, Kathy Kakiga took the lead in interface design, shaping the platform holistically from color and typography to user experience. Kathy applied practical design research methods, including the Double Diamond framework, to ensure the tool was both intuitive and engaging for diverse users.
The CAMPUS HEATMAP allows individuals to place a point on a digital map, making their voices directly visible in the planning process. This simple interaction creates a new way of engaging with urban design, city planning, and community development. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on problems, the tool emphasizes opportunities, potentials, and optimistic improvement.
By combining integrated design, UX strategy, and participatory design, Kathy created a platform that empowers communities to actively shape their environment. The CAMPUS HEATMAP demonstrates how thoughtful interface design and human-centered approaches can transform urban planning into a collaborative and accessible experience.
